Two part-time city employees are the recipients of the Elgin Parks and Recreation Foundation’s second annual Clif Wells Scholarship.Robledo attends Elgin Community College, where he is studying early childhood education. Robledo has worked for the city for two years as a day camp counselor and fitness desk attendant, said Maria Cumpata, director of Parks and Recreation Department.

Villagomez attends Judson University in Elgin, where he is studying architecture, Cumpata said. He’s worked for the city for five years as a day camp counselor, fitness desk attendant and facility supervisor. The scholarship is named for Clif Wells, who retired in 2022 after working for the Parks and Recreation Department for 44 years.Geneva residents interested in learning how the police department works can register to participate in the city’s free Citizen Police Academy, officials said.Weekly classes from 6 to 9 p.m. will be held Tuesdays from Oct. 3 to Dec. 19 at the Geneva Police Department.

Participants must be 21 or older and either live or own a business in Geneva. Topics will include hiring procedures, crime scene investigations, use of force, tech crime, traffic enforcement, crime prevention and drug education.
