Five Republican candidates seeking an open House seat in Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District said on Sunday they believe Donald Trump won the state in the 2020 election, despite Republican state officials and myriad independent courts saying they found no evidence of widespread fraud to put Joe Biden’s victory in question. The candidates, appearing together during a debate, either blamed election rule changes made earlier by Republicans, or offered no evidence at all.
After the candidates raised their hands to indicate they believed Trump won the state in 2020, a moderator noted that other Republicans in Georgia won their races and that the state’s Republican governor and secretary of state said the election was legitimate. “Where’s the fraud?” the moderator asked. Jack said “we must mandate proof of citizenship when you vote,” which another candidate later noted is already the law in Georgia.
