Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell announced Wednesday that Seattle Police Department's Adrian Diaz will be stepping down as chief.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell announces that Adrian Diaz is out as police chief on May 29, 2024. Interim police chief Sue Rahr is taking over. as chief and transitioning to another department position.

Harrell said Diaz would step aside from his post as chief and work on “special projects” in what was called a “mutual decision.” Former King County Sheriff Sue Rahr will serve as interim chief beginning Thursday morning, Harrell said. The decision regarding Diaz's position was made amid a string of claims alleging sexual harassment and sexual and racial discrimination from department leaders.
