Game called after rain delay as big hits power El Segundo comeback over Great Lakes region champ.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The El Segundo Little League All-Stars opened play at the 2023 Little League World Series on Thursday night with a pair of home runs and a 4-3 rain-shortened victory over Great Lakes.
Great Lakes – from New Albany, Ohio – opened the game by taking a 3-1 lead after two innings. El Segundo starter Ollie Parks had some control issues, issuing four walks before DeClan McRoberts took over in the second inning. McRoberts found his rhythm in the third, chalking two strikeouts and forcing a fly ball out to shortstop. He gave up a single but came back to end the inning with a four-pitch strikeout.
Brooks hit a two-run home run to tie the score in the third inning. He was nearly robbed by Great Lakes center fielder Eddie Bloch. The ball hit his glove before bouncing off and clearing the fence. Louis Lappe followed with a solo home run to right field to give El Segundo its first lead of the night. Keldorf nearly hit the third home run of the inning with a fly ball to the center field warning track.
