Sgt. Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana were responding to a call of a reported stabbing at a local motel when they were fatally shot.
The El Monte City Council on Tuesday, June 21, approved paying the full cost of the funerals of the two police officersThe approval on Tuesday was “for all costs” related to the funerals of Sgt. Michael Paredes – who was posthumously promoted to sergeant from the rank of corporal – and Officer Joseph Santana.The shooting has brought the close-knit El Monte community together, as the two officers are being remembered as home-grown heroes.
But the council unanimously approved “all costs related to the funerals of our fallen heroes,” the agenda motion read.
