Eduardo Hernandez is in the running for the Texas Association of School Boards’ statewide honor.

Eduardo Hernandez , the superintendent of Edgewood Independent School District, has been named the 2024 Region 20 Superintendent of the Year, a recognition that celebrates exemplary leadership in public schools. The Texas Association of School Boards announced 18 education leaders from across the state Monday who are regional nominees in its annual Superintendent of the Year award.

On this year’s STAAR end-of-course exams, Edgewood saw the largest overall year-to-year increase, with a 20% jump in its Algebra I passing rate. It also improved its English II scores from pre-pandemic levels. Hernandez was the chief academic officer at Duncanville ISD, a small district south of Dallas, when he was appointed superintendent at Edgewood in 2018 to replace Emilio Castro, who resigned amid a sexual harassment complaint.
