An East Texas man is facing prison time and hefty fines after allegedly organizing dogfighting events for 'gambling and entertainment purposes.' A Harrison County grand jury indicted Jesus Allen Stephens of Waskom on federal dogfighting charges on Wednesday, according to a news release from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Stephens is accused of possessing fighting dogs and participating in major dogfighting events in November and April 2021.
He allegedly announced a series of up to 14 matches and sent GPS coordinates to the property to multiple individuals, including out-of-state participants, prior to the event. “Law enforcement personnel who disrupted the event found a dogfighting pit structure in addition to other dogfighting evidence,” the release says. Dogfighting is a felony under federal law and in all 50 states.
