It's designed to help with childcare costs
A Department for Work and Pensions payment of £500 could be available to new parents. The one-off lump sum is designed to help with the cost of caring for a new baby.
There are certain rules that apply, including that the grant must be claimed within 11 weeks in advance of a baby’s due date or within six months after the baby is born. The Express reported that in order to get the support, a person or their partner must receive one of these benefits: The report also notes that a person can get the payment if they are claiming for a family member who is having their first child or who lives with them. They must be either under 16 or 16 to 19 years old and in approved full-time education or training. A person who is adopting or who is a surrogate parent may also be able to get the support.
