The revelation comes as part of a lawsuit filed just one day after the one-year anniversary of the death of the former Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.
According to the medical examiner’s report released last May, Haskins had been at a club drinking “heavily” and had a “significant amount of alcohol in his blood,” in the hours before he was struck and killed. He was in South Florida then to work out with Steelers teammates, and the former Washington first-round pick figured to be in the mix to replace the retiring Ben Roethlisberger.
Haskins was reportedly struck at 6:37 a.m. A pair of 911 calls released following the accident revealed that he was walking to get gas after his rental car ran along the highway. According to the Herald, the Medical Examiner’s report said the quarterback was seen “waving cars down on the shoulder,” of the highway before he was struck and killed.
Haskins was a star at Ohio State before being selected 15th overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He was released by the team during the 2020 season and picked up by the Steelers going into the 2021 season.
