A convicted drug dealer accused of hiring a hitman to commit in an Atlantic City killing more than four years ago has admitted his role in the shooting.Atlantic County Prosecutor’s OfficeToombs, 34, paid Jamie Sewell Sr. to shoot and kill Lamir King, 21, as King sat in his car on the 700 block of North Ohio Avenue on Jan. 1, 2019, officials said.and later convicted. He faces to 10 to 20 years in state prison when he is sentenced later this year.

In his guilty plea, Toombs admitted that he helped oversee the organization that trafficked in heroin from Paterson and operated throughout Atlantic County. The investigation tracked multiple stamps of heroin, which authorities said alleged accounted for 48 deaths and 84 non-fatal overdoses in New Jersey between Jan. 1, 2017 and June 21, 2019. Toombs was not charged in any of the reported fatal overdoses.

The state and federal sentences will overlap as Toombs will get federal credit for time that he has served since he has been held at the Atlantic County jail. Once he has completed the federal sentence, he will be sent to state prison to serve the remainder of the sentence for conspiracy to commit murder, a spokesman for the Atlantic County Prosector’s Office said in an email.

Toombs was a star basketball player at Atlantic City High School before having a successful career at Division I South Carolina State.
