Longtime Houston-area assistant Donald Lawrence takes over as Clear Lake's new football coach
There may be some apprehension as Donald Lawrence gets his feet wet at Clear Lake High School, but the Falcons’ recently hired first-year head football coach has displayed nothing but a relentless approach in his new job.Lawrence, in taking over for Larry McRae, who guided Clear Lake to two playoff berths in seven years, needs to operate with a full head of steam.
“My biggest thing is to get guys on the staff that kids are going to gravitate toward,” Lawrence said. “These coaches need to be role models, to speak well, to teach well and do things the right way. After departing Langham Creek in 2019, Lawrence joined the Pearland staff as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator under Ricky Tullos for three years.
Lawrence made four coaching hires his first week on the job, and he hopes to continue moving at a fast, but thorough pace as the days unfold.
