Low adoption rates among driver license holders have caused concern for the feds.

The clock is ticking for Alabamians to get a STAR ID driver license, and a top federal official said waiting could lead to further delays.

Tara Corse, the Transportation Security Administration’s federal security director for Alabama, said the May 7 deadline -- when travel on commercial airlines or entry to some federal facilities will require a security-enhanced identification card – could bring a flurry of people to state driver license offices.
