News publication The Guardian and former CNN host Don Lemon announced Wednesday they are abandoning their X accounts, each citing issues with how the social media platform is being run.

In a statement announcing his departure from X, Lemon wrote he no longer believes the site promotes “honest debate and discussion, transparency and free speech.” He also expressed frustration with the site’s upcoming terms of service update, which will allegedly require lawsuits against it be filed in certain Texas district courts.

Lemon sued Musk in August over the cancelation of his X show, which would have involved the former CNN host posting three 30-minute episodes per week on subjects including politics, culture, sports and entertainment. “We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere,” The Guardian wrote in a statement. “The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.
