Vogt is a rookie manager. He came to Cleveland with one year of coaching experience. That was last season in Seattle, where his title was “bullpen and quality-control coach.”At the very least, he has spent years seriously thinking about what he’d do and say if he ever had a chance to manage in the Majors.
If the Guardians were close to a .500 team, I’d be thinking the same thing I am right now: This guy is poised, has a plan and has natural leadership skills. Vogt made two All-Star teams. He also was waived twice. He had shoulder surgery, elbow surgery, hernia surgery and foot surgery.Francona was fired without having a winning season. He had a 285-363 overall record. He took over a Phillies team that was a mess, coming off a 67-95 season.
The Guardians are playing the same aggressive style they did under Francona in the surprise 2022 playoff season. Perhaps Vogt has pushed it into a slightly higher gear.
