Uiagalelei, drafted out of Oregon State, has never played baseball for the Beavers (or Clemson) – or anywhere else since his days at St. John Bosco High, where he boasted a mid-90s fastball.
The Dodgers drafted two other Southern California products on Day 3 of the draft.
South Hills High left-handed pitcher Sterling Patrick went 10-1 with a 0.37 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 76⅔ innings as a senior. He held opponents to a .158 batting average and threw two complete game shutouts. LSU’s Jordan Thompson batted .246 with 11 home runs as a junior and is considered a polished defensive player at shortstop.
