Jemma Redgrave is officially returning in Doctor Who season 14 as Kate Stewart, the leader of UNIT. Excitement is building for Doctor Who season 14, which will star Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as mysterious new companion Ruby Sunday. Production recently began on the series, which is expected to air in 2024, and returning showrunner Russell T Davies is being pretty open in discussing forthcoming episodes.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Recent set photos indicated Redgrave would be reprising the popular role of Kate Stewart, leader of an organization called UNIT - the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, a group dedicated to protecting the world from alien threats. The BBC has now officially confirmed Redgrave's return in a simple press statement.
Kate Stewart was reinvented in the 2012 story "The Power of Three," becoming the new leader of UNIT, the organization her father had founded. The character has a rich history, which has made her attractive to countless writers, and she's appeared alongside every main revival Doctor bar Christopher Eccleston. UNIT is confirmed to appear in the upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, which will air ahead of season 14, and it's possible she will return there as well.
Redgrave is inheriting the mantle of the late Nicholas Courtney, who played the original Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. Courtney first appeared in Doctor Who in the 1968 story "The Web of Fear," as a military colonel who helped the Doctor repel a Yeti invasion of the London Underground.
