Bonnie Langford's Mel was best known for her screaming in Doctor Who during the 1980s; her return alongside Ncuti Gatwa can change all of that.

Bonnie Langford's Mel was a divisive companion during her first Doctor Who era, but Mel's return is actually a really smart move by showrunner Russell T Davies. Mel will be joining Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson's Ruby in Doctor Who season 14, due to air in 2024. Mel will be the third returning 1980s Doctor Who companion since both Tegan Jovanka and Ace returned for Jodie Whittaker's final adventure.

The Broadway and reality competition connections gives Bonnie Langford common ground with other guest stars in RTD's new Doctor Who era. Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Jinkx Monsoon, and Jonathan Groff are all known for their musical theater work just as much as their work in movies and shows like Gone Girl or Mindhunter.

It's still unclear how exactly Mel found her way home after traveling with Glitz, but RTD has promised answers on his Instagram account. Whether Sabalom Glitz returns to Doctor Who is unclear, but it's likely that he'll be mentioned in passing by the Doctor and Mel. The companion support group, and Bonnie Langford's return as Mel does imply that RTD could bring back other faces from the Doctor's past in spinoffs or future episodes of the series.
