According to showrunner Russell T. Davies, Doctor Who season 14 will return to the show's roots after unsuccessful ratings for season 13. This approach will be coupled with a contemporary Doctor in Gatwa. The next Doctor Who iteration will combine the classic with the new age, with the costumes exemplifying this outlook.
However, the Doctor Who team has not gone all classic with the costumes. Though they combine classic and new looks, one major factor seems to distinguish Gatwa's features from the other Time Lords, which is having multiple costumes. In the past, Doctor Who leads have had one signature look they return to throughout their time, but early images of Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor indicate that this new Doctor may have multiple main costumes.
Based on Gatwa’s previous work on Sex Education, he may be the perfect actor to inhabit this apparel. As series best friend Eric Effiong, Gatwa brought both charisma and heart. He may take on this charismatic approach in Doctor Who season 14, hopefully coupling it with emotionally-charged scenes to give Doctor Who the perfect blend of drama and lightheartedness that it once achieved. Time will tell as Gatwa steps into his Time Lord attire in the coming months.
