A new poll claimed that a quarter of British people really believe Covid was a hoax 🤔 But StuartJRitchie is sceptical - and questions how many of the respondents really believe that this is the case?

But of course, it’s not true. By the time you take 40 per cent of 14 per cent of the sample in the poll, you’re down to just 314 people, and all representativeness is out of the window.

This is a bit like when pollsters do an election survey of 1,000 people across the whole UK, but then people look at the datapoints from individual constituencies to try to predict the election results there. Any pollster will tell you how inadvisable this is: there just aren’t enough datapoints from any specific constituency to give us reliable information. Likewise, looking at very specific subsets of people from within a general sample is not going to lead to robust results.
