DNA testing has helped identify a man who was found in a Michigan river in 1973. The victim had blunt force trauma to the back of his head and was shot seven times.

In 2020, a state police cold case team and a state police missing persons coordination unit reopened the case and hair and bone samples were sent to a California forensic genetic genealogy lab. A Texas man whose body was found floating in a Michigan river almost 50 years ago has been identified on account of DNA testing. Hair and bone samples sent to a genetic lab helped in identifying the remains of Daniel G. Garza-Gonzales.
