Here’s what District 1 councilman Mario Bravo and education consultant Sukh Kaur have been up to this week as they prepare for a runoff.
City Council district 1 Candidates Jeremy Roberts , Sukh Kaur, Ernest Salinas and incumbent Councilmember Mario Bravo hold up “for” or “against” cards regarding their support for Proposition 2 at the Laurel Heights United Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon. District 1 Councilman Mario Bravo dropped his campaign team last week after newcomer Sukh Kaur beat him on May 6, forcing him into a runoff election.
Kaur said she brought in about $25,000 last week, halfway to her goal of $50,000 for the runoff. Former Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, one of Kaur's earliest and highest-profile supporters, helped her by writing a letter urging supporters to contribute. However, it's easy to exaggerate the value of endorsements. More important for runoff candidates is mobilizing voters who supported them in the general election.
Bravo has the support of at least one of his former challengers — Ernest Salinas. The former Dellview Area Neighborhood Association president, one of the most conservative candidates in the seven-person race, garnered 10 percent of the vote on election night. On the campaign trail, Bravo often touted neighborhood group support.
. He verbally attacked her for not supporting his spending plan for $50 million in surplus revenue from city-owned CPS Energy, telling her her move illustrated why he ended their relationship and didn’t have children with her.
