Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp’s wild queer comedy seems destined for cult status.
as Trevor and Craig—a pair of preening alpha salesmen who discover late in life that they’re actually identical twins, then set off on a musical quest to reunite their parents . But the plot is just a loose frame for jokes, particularly the film’s foundational one: that Jackson and Sharp are neither identical nor alpha males. from a long-running two-man show they premiered at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade theater in the 20-teens, a time and place where saying “fuck” was an easy substitute for actual effort. As the film wears on, though, it gets weirder and sharper—particularly when musical comedy pros Lane and Mullally show up. Each actor is right on Jackson and Sharp’s line-pushing wavelength, saying and singing unspeakably disgusting things with a straight face.
Or at least, a mostly straight face. Charles sometimes opts to leave in takes where his stars seem right on the brink of breaking into laughter, a decision that might’ve been irritating if the movie weren’t as fun to watch as it apparently was to make.
