Diablo 4 lead warns servers “might be a little bumpy on the first day” Diablo4 DiabloIV Diablo Blizzard
. Rod’s very aware of the challenges Blizzard will no doubt face on launch day, but “We’ve done the work, and we’ve done a lot of testing, and so we’re prepared. But you know, never say never. It might be a little bumpy on the first day, but our hopes are that, like we did on those weekends, we learn and adapt.”
Of course gamers with long memories may remember the furore around Diablo 3’s launch, which spawned the infamous Error 37 where gamers were unable to login to the game and play, being met with the message “The servers are busy at this time.” – obviously, this is something Blizzard is hoping to avoid with the aforementioned Server Slam and other multiple betas over the past six months. “We learned a lot from each of them,” he says.
However, while the initial launch could be a little bumpy, over time – Fergusson says – things should smooth out, in something akin to an ‘amusement park’. “We’ve done the work we could do to make launch day as smooth as possible. And we feel good about where we are.”
