Dexter: Original Sin has the opportunity to address a controversial retcon from Dexter: New Blood concerning the type of tranquilizer Dexter uses.

This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter : Original Sin episode 3 and Dexter : New Blood.Now that Dexter : Original Sin is underway, it will soon have to address one of the biggest plot hole s from the sequel series Dexter : New Blood. As a prequel series, Dexter : Original Sin has had a chance to revisit some of the original series and New Blood's greatest hits. Already, it proved that Dexter survived the ending of New Blood, and it added a new twist to Dexter 's first victim, Nurse Mary.
As the show continues, it will have even more chances to rewrite the beginning of Dexter Morgan's story, and it will also have a chance to rewrite a controversial part of New Blood's story. Dexter: New Blood was controversial in a number of ways. While it was better than the lumberjack ending of Dexter, many fans felt unsatisfied with Dexter's death at Harrison's hand. One of its more surprising controversies, however, didn't have anything to do with Dexter's time in Iron Lake, New York, but rather his time in Miami in the original series. New Blood introduced a subtly massive retcon that also created a huge plot hole, and Original Sin now has the chance to fix it all three years later. There's an entire episode dedicated to explaining how Dexter got his hands on it, and how he circumvented the DEA's restrictions on the drug. Dexter: New Blood, however, retroactively changed the drug Dexter used from M99 to ketamine, another type of sedative.
