WASHINGTON — Rangers manager Bruce Bochy has said it multiple times: When the top of Texas’ lineup goes, the whole team goes. Meaning, if the Rangers’ top...

Sunday’s 7-2 loss to the Washington Nationals“Still swinging at pitches I want to hit, just not doing as much damage. I’m trying to impact the game any way I can.”His batting average on June 6 was .304; it’s dropped to .271 since. He went 1 for 3 with a double, a run scored and a walk in Sunday’s loss. He grounded into a game-ending double play with two runners on base.Advertisement

To Semien’s point about his swings: The peripherals haven’t changed much. Between the start of the season and the final day of his hit streak, he swung at 82.3% of pitches inside the strike zone and 26.3% of pitches outside the strike zone; since the streak’s end, he’s swung at 78.5% of pitches inside the zone, 25% of pitches outside the zone. His strikeout percentage has increased only slightly. His hard hit percentage has dropped some, though: it was 36.3% in his first 60 games and 31.

“I don’t think he’s pressing,” Bochy said. “We all get out of sync a little bit. I think he’s seeing the ball better [lately]. He’s been a little streaky. I know last year he got off to a slow start, and that’s who he is. That’s who, really, most hitters are to be honest. He’s going to be fine.” Semien is not averse to droughts. Notably, he hit just .199 with a single home run in April and May last season, his first two months as a Ranger. He hit .268 with 25 home runs in the 114 games that followed that season.Bochy, especially so in Texas’ 30 games in 31 days stretch, has reworked the lineup on a near-daily basis to find opportunities for players to rest. Semien, a modern-day ironman, has played in each game this season at second base and leadoff.

“He’s built, wired I guess, to be able to go out there every day,” Bochy said. “We’ve talked. I do think he’s fine, he’s healthy. He’s going through a bump in the road — which he has — and then he’ll come out of it. We’ve talked about it, we’ve talked about a lot of things.”“I had a good, probably, first two-and-a-half months then hit a rough spot,” Semien said. “This game is built on ups and downs and how you bounce back.
