Strategists say that's because of Trump, who was the lone Republican campaigning for the White House until former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley announced a run on Tuesday. They say entering a head-to-head matchup with the former president, who is known for his unyielding attacks on political challengers, could quickly tank a fledgling candidacy.
