Eirina, a Sumatran orangutan who drank her Denver caretaker’s favorite pregnancy tea for morning sickness relief, birthed a healthy baby on Sunday, Denver Zoo announced in a news release.

The newborn is Eirina’s first baby and is a “momentous occasion” for the zoo and the global conservation community, zoo officials said in a news release, since Sumatran orangutans are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The primate’s “rapidly declining wild population” is due to habitat loss, illegal hunting and black-market pet trade, the zoo said.
In the coming weeks, Denver Zoo will perform a DNA test to learn whether the baby’s father is 30-year-old Berani or 15-year-old Jaya.
