Police are searching for 'anyone who believes they may have been a victim.'

A Denver cardiologist charged with sexual assault after an alleged date rape may have been involved in more than one incident, according to the Denver police, who this week appealed for public help.

The case involves Dr. Stephen Matthews. Police arrested him in March after a woman accused him of rape, and he was released from jail on a $50,000 bond. He faces felony sexual assault charges including assault on a helpless victim and on an incapable victim.

A licensed cardiologist affiliated with several hospitals in metro Denver, Matthews has said, through an attorney, that the sex was consensual. “There may have been other incidents involving Matthews,” Denver police said this week in a news release. Police asked that “anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Stephen Matthews” call the Denver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 720-913-6040.
