Kamala Harris will be the Bay Area’s first presidential nominee
Harris, who was born in Oakland and raised primarily in Berkeley, officially secured the Democratic nomination for president Friday. The 59-year-old said she will officially accept the nomination Monday.
After graduating from UC Law San Francisco in 1989, Harris rose through the ranks as a prosecutor in Alameda County and then San Francisco throughout the 1990s. In 2004, she was elected San Francisco’s district attorney, a position she held for two terms before winning election as California attorney general.
