A reboot of 1993's Cliffhanger is in the works, but Demolition Man 2 is Sylvester Stallone's best follow-up to one of his '90s hits. Cliffhanger was a big hit for Stallone in 1993, with Stallone portraying mountain rescue expert Gabe Walker, long-haunted by a failed rescue mission in the movie's opening.

While Cliffhanger remains one of Stallone's career highlights, his 1993 action-comedy Demolition Man not only shares that distinction, but has also grown in appreciation in the decades since its release.
Though Cliffhanger is one of Stallone's best '90s action movies, it is also structured as a one-and-done affair, leaving little real room to build upon its story other than a reboot. By contrast, Demolition Man establishes a wacky, upside-down world in which radio stations play commercial jingles, Arnold Schwarzenegger has served as President, and Taco Bell is the sole surviving restaurant chain in the "franchise wars".
What Demolition Man 2 Could Be About While Simon Phoenix is the main antagonist of Demolition Man, the real villain is the sinister Cacteau determined to "take away people's right to be a--holes", as Phoenix puts it. By the movie's ending, the world of Demolition Man is primed for a big change, but not necessarily fully back to the pre-San Angeles world.
Flashing forward another few decades to 2053 or thereabouts, Demolition Man 2 could take Spartan and Huxley on an adventure in a more moderate version of San Angeles. Demolition Man 2 could potentially flip the first film's story with Cacteau loyalists determined to take the world back to his vision for it, continuing Demolition Man's allegory of a peaceful society being found, in Spartan's words, "somewhere in the middle".
