Godless Democrats — it’s not just the imagination. They really are losing their religion. No wonder they’re always advocating for big, bigger, biggest government. It’s all they have.
In 1999, about 62 percent of Republicans said they were religious; 25 percent, spiritual, 7 percent, both and 5 percent, neither. In 2023, meanwhile, 61 percent of Republicans claimed they were religious; 28 percent, spiritual, 2 percent, both; and 8 percent neither.
The takeaway is significant: A country like America, with individual rights that come from God, cannot stay a nation of individualists with a government limited in scope if those in political leadership have no belief in God; have no reverence for God; have no fear of God. If there is no accountability to a higher power, then life — politics — becomes all about doing what seems right in one’s own mind. And very often, in both life and politics, what seems right in one’s own mind benefits the self, the ego, the selfish ego and fleshly desire.
God-given rights, the kind where government exists only to protect the rights that each individual is granted at birth — by birth — can only last if the people are capable of self-governance; if the people are moral enough to control themselves; if the people are principled enough to do what’s right even in the face of wrong. That kind of moral compass only comes from above; any morality made of this world is as impermanent as human emotions and whims and desires.
So when Democrats lose religion, it’s only natural they turn to government to solve the world’s problems. That’s why Democrats are increasingly angry at the insistence of patriotic Americans — conservatives — Republicans — to maintain certain liberties, keep government in a role of subservience to the people, and live in a society where politicians know their humble place. They’re losing their religion. Twenty-one percent now say they are neither religious nor spiritual.
