Republicans motioned for the Connecticut Democrat's words to be stricken from the record, sending the committee into recess for review. After the afternoon recess, DeLauro herself asked for"the offending words" to be withdrawn. "I wasn't out yet, left a gay bar, and two people followed me and beat me with a baseball bat 'till I was bloodied unconscious and called me a 'faggot,'" Pocan said."This is what you guys do by introducing amendments like this taking away from people's earmarks.
After Democrats sent the committee into recess twice over inflammatory words to be removed from the record and multiple speeches, the amendment finally passed into the bill.
