A suspect drove an F150 truck through a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens. The suspect later engaged police in a shootout before being killed.
A suspect drove a pickup truck through a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans at a high rate of speed, leaving at least 10 dead and injuring dozens of others early Wednesday, city and federal officials said. Authorities in New Orleans say they have identified a name -- albeit a common name -- and are working to be certain that they have the right person before releasing a name.
The F150 truck that was used in the attack was rented in Texas through the Turo app - a carsharing company. The truck's owner told ABC News that he rented this truck to an individual through Turo and that he is currently talking to the FBI, declining to comment further. Explosive devices found in and around the scene on Bourbon Street were apparently found to be viable. Some hotels are being evacuated in the area and several controlled detonations have taken place. Questions are also being raised on whether the Sugar Bowl will go forward, which as of now, it will, officials say. After mowing down numerous people over a three-block stretch on the famed thoroughfare while firing shots into the crowd, the suspect allegedly got out of the truck wielding an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect who was not immediately identified. At least two police officers were shot and wounded, authorities said
