8:30 AM EDT May 7, 2024Duval County Public SchoolsOn Tuesday, the school board will select their finalists to take on the job. Currently, there are five semifinalists vowing to be the next superintendent; one candidate withdrew their name from the list.The selection process for choosing superintendent finalists was giving the semifinalists questions school board members chose to ask, in which the candidates had to write down and submit video responses.

Daniel Smith's process involved reviewing current procedures and protocols, conducting a comparative analysis with other school districts, then facilitating community listening sessions. Joe Phillips said he would implement three strategies that would"enhance community partnerships, cultivate positive school culture and create an accountability and communication system."

Cheryl Proctor said she would host roundtable discussions with school officials and its school police chief, and develop a school security and safety plan to tackle misconduct and fights.First Coast News reached out to all the semifinalists, however, the Florida School Board Association says they were told not to respond to our questions, yet.
