James se perdió su primer juego de la temporada debido a una magulladura en la pantorrilla izquierda.
Aunque James regresó a ese juego, los Lakers decidieron dar descanso a su astro de 38 años. El equipo de James no logró abrir una gran distancia con Portland, pero Davis tomó el timón de los Lakers y anotó nueve puntos en el último cuarto, para imponerse en casa tras una gira en la que quedaron 1-3.
