REVEALED: Dave Chappelle attacker wrote rap song about the comedian in 2020
The comedian, 48, was performing at the Netflix is a Joke festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The attacker has been named as Isaiah Lee, 23; he is now in LA County Sheriff's custody. Lee has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon - police say he was carrying a knife and replica gun. He had dedicated a 2020 rap song to Chappelle on YouTube and was an amateur rapper.
Lee also uploaded a video on Instagram yesterday in the same outfit he was arrested in, but gave no indication of what he had planned. Chappelle was uninjured and continued with his set, joking the attacker was a 'trans man'. He had been joking about the woke brigade trying to cancel him over recent trans jokes when Lee stormed the stage. Chris Rock then performed and joked that the attacker was Will Smith following the Oscars 'slap gate' incident.
