Milton Jones Road closure expected through end of August
) - The city of Daphne is shutting down the intersection of Milton Jones Road and County Road 13 for a construction project. The closure is part of the Milton Jones Road extension project, a partnership between the city of Daphne and the Baldwin County Commission.
The work is part of a plan to extend Milton Jones Road and create a new east-west route between Pollard Road and Highway 181. The intersection is expected to remain closed through the end of August. Drivers were forced to alternate routes on Monday morning.
“I’m very late for work. But I’m sure they’re going to understand once they get there because I’m now going to have to now go another way, and I’m just trying to figure out how to get there,” said Mary Francis, a commuter.
“I thought the signs up there said detour right here. So that’s why we turned right here. And I think that’s why a lot of cars are coming down here, because it says detour right here. ” Mayor Robin LeJeune thanked the community for their patience and said the city scheduled the closure during the summer months because there is less traffic when school is out.
The project will connect Pollard Road to State Highway 181, creating an additional east-west corridor through the area.
“Good luck. I hope everybody gets to work on time, and I know not to come this way tomorrow,” Francis said.
