On Sept. 21, Danzey was recognized by Troy University Athletics as a “Troy Nation Community Hero,” and celebrated with his photograph on the Jumbotron during Saturday’s Troy home game.
Bill Perkins The Rev. Norris L. Danzey has long been considered a community hero by those who know him well. He retired in 2001 from the U.S. Navy, leaving as lieutenant commander after 30 years. Rather than kick back in the easy chair, Danzey returned to school and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and then put his skills to work at Hawk-Houston Youth Enrichment Center, where he’s served the youth as both volunteer and staff member for more some 15 years.
