It was understood if Tanev hit the market July 1, Dallas likely would not be able to compete in a bidding war considering the team had just about $16 million to fill 10 roster spots.The biggest challenge in re-signing Tanev was that Dallas had to pay significantly more for him than they did during his three months on the roster last season.by Calgary and New Jersey, so Dallas shouldered just $1.125 million of his $4.5 million cap hit.
The Stars still do not have any right-handed defensemen signed. The only defenseman they have signed on the right side is Miro Heiskanen, who is actually a lefty.
