The process of replacing longtime superintendent Michael Hinojosa has already been somewhat fraught. The board initially planned to use two search firms for the job. One has since dropped out, leaving Austin-based Walsh Gallegos as theThe team presented its proposed timeline during Thursday’s board briefing, though officials noted the board could end up taking longer to decide.
“It’s going to be incredibly important for Dallas ISD to move thoughtfully through this process,” he said. “Three months is plenty of time to vet candidates, in my own personal opinion, and make a decision.” DISD has to stay on track given the competition for superintendents, he added. It’s one of several North Texas districts, including nearby Fort Worth, searching for a new leader after a wave of resignations and retirements.
“So that’s just other districts making the decision for us, rather than us making the best choice of candidate we have” if DISD delays, he said. But despite the competition, “at the end of the day though, Dallas, as one of the largest districts in America, definitely stands separate.”
