Johnson’s tally includes $5,000 each from The Potter’s House megachurch founder Bishop T.D. Jakes, former Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson, tax consulting firm head G. Brint Ryan, his wife Amanda Ryan, real estate investor Ray Washburne, attorney Nikelle Meade, investment firm president Doug Deason, lawyer and podcast host Jacki Pick Deason, Pinnacle Group CEO Nina Vaca, and home textile company CEO Arun Agarwal.
Agarwal serves as the mayor’s appointee on Dallas’ Park and Recreation Board and is the group’s current chair. Agarwal also donated $1,000 toward the re-election campaign for council member Adam Bazaldua, who is seeking his third-term representing District 7′s South Dallas. Johnson’s only opponent who has publicly declared a mayoral bid and has been cleared by the city to raise donations for the race is community volunteer Kendal Richardson. The first-time candidate reported a lone $20 donation, spending about $100 in business cards and having no cash on hand by the end of 2022.
Council member Paula Blackmon, who represents District 9 in East Dallas including the White Rock Lake area, reported having more than $119,000 in cash on-hand and West with close to $105,000. Of the council members representing the city’s 14 districts, two have hit term limits after serving eight years over four terms: Casey Thomas, representing District 3 in southwest Dallas and Adam McGough, representing District 10 in northeast Dallas. Neither the mayor nor the other 12 incumbents eligible for re-election have indicated that they’ll vacate their seat.
Another District 10 candidate Brian Hasenbauer, a former Dallas community development commission member, reported raising more than $3,000 and having about $900 in money on hand.-Philanthropists Lydia and Bill Addy both donated $1,000 each to West, Moreno, Bazaldua, and Mendelsohn as well as to council members Omar Narvaez, who represents District 6 in West Dallas.
