He should fit in defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer’s scheme, but he’s going to need some help.It’s hard to place Mazi Smith here but his rookie year can be summed up as a “redshirt” season. So in Year 2, Smith should improve. His progress will be slowed with that offseason surgery, which might have contributed to why he didn’t seem strong enough against blockers in 2023. There is little depth on this team, so expect a free-agent signing much as the team made in previous years.
