Installations help create sense of place for lost loved ones.

This installation by the late Sunnyvale artist Edith R. Argabrite is part of “Facing Home,” an exhibit opening Nov. 1 at De Anza College’s Euphrat Museum of Art in Cupertino. “She was a Holocaust survivor,” says daughter Diana Argabrite, the museum’s director, adding that her mother intended to make 2,200 felted nest sculptures to represent resting places for her classmates who didn’t survive.

The installation is one of several in “Facing Home” that explore what constitutes a sense of home or refuge and honor the passing of loved ones central to the concept of home. Other objects visible beneath the folds of the sheer dress speak to her daughter’s love of dancing, singing and photography.
