Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal and Congressional Renters Caucus Chair Jimmy Gomez are leading 26 of their colleagues in calling on the Administration to immediately release the final “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development . “America is contending with a variety of housing issues – including surging rents, increasing homelessness, and roadblocks to the American dream of homeownership.
Although the Fair Housing Act was passed with the goal of prohibiting direct discrimination by landlords and real estate companies, patterns of segregation still exist. The proposed AFFH rule would serve to close gaps in the enforcement of the Fair Housing Act and ensure through Equity Plans that the law is being upheld to its full extent.
