The Covid Inquiry is to investigate whether there was a secret policy in place at the start of the pandemic to issue Do Not Attempt to Resuscitate notices on elderly covid patients in hospitals without their families’ consent 🔴 janemerrick23 reports:
The next day, the hospital called to say their mother had sadly died earlier that morning.
“[It said] she was admitted at 0958. DNAR was placed on her at 1225. There is handwriting at the top of the notice saying ‘not sure she understands’, but at the bottom of the page it said ‘the patient fully understands’. But Mum’s signature wasn’t there.” A year later, in 2021, Ms Rumball eventually received a letter from the hospital which conceded that staff should have explained in more detail what the proposed plan was. But she is adamant that they did not seek consent.
