In some countries, households are paying far less for the cost of heating their homes. Sky News looks at where bills are lower and how energy policies compare with the UK.
In other countries that rely heavily on hydro - Costa Rica, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden - consumers also pay less.
Gas makes up 40.1%, followed by wind , nuclear , biomass and other renewables , solar , oil , hydro and coal . He tells Sky News the geography of the UK, which has fewer lakes and mountains than other countries, makes it less suitable for hydroelectricity on a very large scale. However, offshore wind is significantly more expensive than onshore wind and takes longer to build, according to the National Grid.
