A Lewistown woman died from smoke inhalation after her home was set ablaze, the Mifflin County Coroner's Office announced Monday.

The manner of death for Brandy Phillipe, 44, was ruled homicide due to arson, the coroner said. The fire broke out in the 200 block of Bratton Avenue late Wednesday night. The Lewistown Police Department said the fire was believed to have been started by a person of interest, identified as Robert Zimmerman, who had professed his love for a female who lived in the home.

He allegedly became upset after he was rejected and was seen setting fire to items on the first floor of the home, police said. The coroner's office wrote in a news release Monday that Phillipe was not the subject of the man's affection: The Mifflin County Coroner's Office would also like to correct misinformation that has circulated publicly regarding this event.

Investigative findings determined that Ms. Phillipe was not the individual connected to the suspect's reported unwanted advances and was not involved in the circumstances that led to the fire. The Lewistown Police Department said Zimmerman had professed his love for "a female who was living in the attic of the residence.

" "That female was later taken into custody for a prothonotary warrant issued in February 2026," the police department wrote in a Facebook post. "It was reported that Zimmerman became upset when he was rejected by the female and he began setting several items on fire on the first floor of the residence.

"Police said a man was hurt after he jumped from a second-floor window, and another person was hurt after she passed out from smoke inhalation and fell from a window. Their current conditions are unknown.
