Cops reaching out to drug addicts, offering Narcan training in Gloucester County

Presenters will train attendees on how to use the overdose antidote Narcan and provide free Narcan kits.

Sep. 19, 2023, 4:28 p.m.A Gloucester County police department will hold a community outreach event on Thursday to help those struggling with drug addiction who are in need of mental health services.

Clayton has taken a multifaceted approach to the issue of addiction, said borough Police Chief Andrew Davis. Clayton has implemented other efforts to combat substance abuse, including the Narcan “Leave Behind” Program. If officers respond to a residence for an overdose, they leave behind a Narcan kit with a family member or friend and explain how to use it, according to Davis.
