The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, or COPA, is investigating after an armed suspect was shot by a Chicago police officer Saturday night in Humboldt Park, according to Chicago police.Officers were conducting a street stop investigation of two people in an alleyway. One fled on foot and officers pursued that person.
The suspect picked up a handgun after unsuccessfully attempting to throw it away during the chase, police said. At this point, one of the officers drew their gun and shot at the person multiple times. The person was immediately placed in custody and transported to the hospital in good condition, according to police.The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the use of police force. The officer involved has been placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, and police are cooperating with the investigation.
