About 400 people laced up in Redmond on Saturday to help find a cure for ALS and fund care services for more than 700 people living with the deadly disease.

About 400 people laced up in Redmond on Saturday to help find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and fund care services for more than 700 people living with the deadly disease in the Pacific Northwest.

"Seeing the community come to rally around the people living with ALS and their families, or those they’ve lost to ALS is magical," ALS Association SVP Jennifer Hjelle said. "I’ve been involved with the ALS community for more than a decade and I have now met and lost numerous people that have become near and dear to me, and our staff doesn’t want to say goodbye to folks. We want to help them.

The ALS Association Evergreen Chapter’s Walk to Defeat ALS is one of the organization’s largest annual events."There is a lot of unknown . We don’t know what causes it, we don’t know how to cure it. Everybody has a different experience with ALS which makes it really difficult to tell folks what to expect when they’re diagnosed," Hjelle added. "That’s why research is really really critical.
